This large old granite free house was once a hunting lodge on the Trevarno estate, and is thought to be about 250 years old. Although a single spacious bar, there are several distinct drinking areas, a dining area (with old Gothic arched doorway), and a walled beer garden. A separate area houses the pool table. This is a community pub where conversation dominates, although there is the occasional live entertainment and quiz night. The varied choice of beers is mainly from micro-breweries; unusually, the ales are dispensed by gravity straight from the cellar, despite the array of 4 handpumps (complete with pumpclips) on the bar. An interesting collection of beer mats and tankards festoons the beams and ceiling. Draught cider also varies. Accommodation (14 rooms) is in four ensuite lodges around the back of the pub.
