Recently extyensively refurbished and smartened up externally after a period of closure during late 2024-early 2025, this is the principal town hotel, in the main square close to the famous Norman castle. An old coaching inn, its comfortable, carpeted bar is partitioned to break up the area. Satellite TV is available in the evenings. The bar, popular with daytime shoppers, usually offers two regularly-changing real ales from two of the four handpumps. Food is available all day from 12:00, although there is a breakfast menu available until 10:30 in the bar or restaurant.
